Monarch Milkweed Magic Rap

Chorus

Monarch milkweed magic in the air,

Metamorphosis (metamorphosis)

Monarch milkweed magic in the air,

We need conservation to protect this pollination.

Monarchs are butterfly royalty,

Used to be found far and near.

Four stages in their life cycle,

Four generations every year.

Eggs are laid on a milkweed

Right on the leaves below.

Caterpillars hatching left and right

Eating milkweed to help ‘em grow.

After just two weeks they shed their skin

Forming a chrysalis.

Now wait just a bit and adults emerge,

An amazing metamorphosis.

The full grown monarchs visit flowers,

They’re hungry seeking nectar.

When it comes to the art of pollination,

Monarchs are a super vector.

When the weather cools,

It’s time to begin the journey of migration.

Taking the flyway down to Mexico,

Wintering in another nation.

Chorus

Orange and black, that’s where it’s at,

There are mimics but no true doubles.

But wake up to reality, YO!

The monarch is in trouble.

Herbicides knocking down the milkweed,

Habitat is all but lost indeed,

Plus climate change and deforestation,

How is the monarch to succeed?

The answer is clear my friends,

We don’t need some long narration.

All on board, all hands on deck,

It’s going to take some major conservation.

Plant some milkweed in your garden,

Plant some milkweed on your farm.

We need milkweed everywhere,

To prevent the monarchs’ harm.

Plant some milkweed on the golf course,

Along the roads and interstate.

Working together to conserve the monarchs

Makes this nation great!
